Rams lose heartbreaker at Standard Bank Field

Midlothian, IL (April 11, 2011) - The Rams certainly made it exciting in their 3-2 lost to the Marist Redhawks this afternoon at Standard Bank Field.  The game ended in dramatic fashion when pinch runner Hector Cirilo, attempting to score the tying run, was thrown out at the plate by the Marist right fielder.

"Hector made a great slide," said Coach Dick Canan, "and it looked like he got his hand in there before the catcher made the tag."   Garret Rhodes began the two out rally when he singled to center field.  Cirilo pinch ran for Rhodes and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.  Matt Javorski hit a grounder through the legs of the Marist first baseman that ended up in right field.  "You have to give their guy credit," commented Coach Erickson.  "He threw a perfect strike to the catcher and it ended up being a bang-bang play that didn&;t go our way with the call."

Although Reavis hitters struggled to muster just four hits, three Rams pitchers, Zack Mackowiak, Brandon Hines, and Josh Arnold held Marist hitters to five hits and two earned runs.

Cameron Koepke had the lone RBI for Reavis.

The Rams continue conference play Tuesday against Lemont at Czarnecki Field.
