Offense propels Rams to home opener victory

Burbank, IL (March 16, 2012) - The Rams defeated Morton 8-3 in a lightning-shortened game Friday at Czarnecki Field.  The win moved the Rams&; record to 2-0.

Pitcher Anthony Doory picked up the win in his first start of the year.  The senior went four innings, allowing no earned runs on two hits and three strikeouts.

The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when D&;Angelo scored on Doory&;s fielding error.  However, in the bottom on the second inning, Reavis scored two runs and never relinquished the lead.  Joe O&;Hara led off the frame with a walk and Doory followed with a single to left.  After Jake Stano&;s sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, Leo Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly that scored O&;Hara.  Later in the inning, Tom Pindelski&;s bunt plated Deir, who was running for Doory.

The Rams added two more runs in the third inning with an RBI fielder&;s choice from Richie Velez and an RBI double by David Beltran.

Reavis extended the lead to 7-1 in the fourth when Velez drove in Pindelski and Mike Lally with a two-out double off the left-center wall, followed by Beltran plating Velez with a single up the middle.

In the top of the fifth inning, Morton scored two unearned runs on a Ram miscue, but Stano&;s solo home run in the bottom of the frame gave Reavis an 8-3 lead.  The game was called in the top of the sixth inning due to thunder and lightning in the area.

The Rams&; next game is Monday, March 19, against top-ranked Nazareth Academy at Czarnecki Field.
