Young Guns hold on to win Alumni Game

Burbank, IL (May 1, 2012) - The Reavis baseball program held its annual alumni game at Czarnecki Field on Sunday, April 29.  Over 30 former players, including graduates from five different decades, came out to play in the event.  Each alum received a Reavis baseball t-shirt and the day began at 10:00 am with batting practice followed by a nine inning game at 11:30.

The teams were split into Old Timers (1974-2000 grads) and Young Guns (2001-2011 grads).  The Young Guns jumped out to an early 6-1 lead behind the hitting of captain Ryan Flood (2001) and Karl Gotsch (2005).  However, the Old Timers battled back late and tied the score in the seventh inning.  A duo of lefties on the mound, Jim Barker (1974) and Wayne Ziegler (1975) kept the veterans in the game.  In the end Kyle Mueller (2004) got Mario Urquizo (2000) to fly out with runners on second and third to preserve the 10-9 victory for the youngsters.

"I had a great time today," said Jim Barker who traveled from Arizona to play in the game.  "We have a wedding we are attending next week in Chicago, but when I heard about the game, I moved up my flight a week so we could make the game.  It was a blast!"
