Late Rally Not Enough Against St. Rita

Burbank, IL (March 27, 2013) - The Rams (2-1) lost their first game of the season to ranked St. Rita 7-5 yesterday at Czarnecki Field.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 7-0 lead when they scored five runs off starter Jorge Hernandez (1-1) in the second inning and two off reliever Matt Barajas in the fifth inning.  Dan Meskill spelled Barajas in the fifth and worked out of a jam, and Mike Lally and Matt Kopp worked a scoreless sixth and seventh, respectively to keep the game close.

St. Rita starter Fasco had a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Jake Aguilar broke it up with a double to left field.  Reavis failed to score that inning but got on the board in the sixth when Jose Romero's RBI single plated Richie Velez.  Trailing 7-1 in the final frame, the Rams rallied with four walks and two big hits to bring the score to 7-5 with runners on second and third.  John Deir's sinking liner, though, was caught by a diving left fielder to end the game.

"We came out slow today and didn't play good baseball for much of the game," said Erickson, "but I liked the way we battled late in the game.  We just came up one or two hits short today."

Reavis hosts Lakeview Thursday at 4:30 pm.
