Extra-Inning Victory for the Rams

Charleston, SC (April 2, 2013) - The Rams (4-3) came from behind twice to defeat Woodland High School 6-5 in eight innings Tuesday night in the South Carolina H.I.T. National Tournament.

Reavis got on the board with one run in the top of the second inning when Jose Romero walked, stole second, and advanced to third and home on a pair of wild pitches. The Warriors answered with three unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning off starter Belal Abuzir. Dan Meskill began the third by lacing a double down the left field line, and eventually scored on Romero's hit to center field, cutting Woodland's lead to one.

The score remained 3-2 until the fifth inning when the Rams scored two runs, on two walks, an error, and a double by Joe O'Hara. "Joe had been struggling at the plate, so we moved him down a bit in the order. It certainly seemed to help him out as he went 2 for 3 and hit the ball hard in every at-bat," said Coach Erickson. There were two more lead changes in the sixth inning and at the end of the seventh the score was knotted up at 5-5.

Sophomore Lael Robles picked a great time to collect his first Varsity hit when he singled to open up the eighth inning.  Dave Solus, who pitch-ran for Robles, eventually scored when he was forced in on a bases-loaded walk to Matt Barajas.

Jorge Hernandez pitched a scoreless eighth to preserve the win and pick up his first save.  Barajas also pitched well in relief, going 2.2 innings and allowing no runs.

The Rams take on tournament host Hanahan Wednesday at 5:00.
