Canan honored by the IHSBCA

Burbank, IL

Reavis High School would like to congratulate Dick Canan for being named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association.  He will be honored at the annual IHSBCA Awards Banquet on Saturday, January 20, at the Westin Hotel in Lombard.  Canan, who began coaching the varsity Rams in 1997, has been a part of six conference championships and two Regional crowns, including one this past season.  A Burbank native, Canan played for IHSBCA Hall of Famer, Ron Czarnecki, and the Reavis Rams in the early 1980's.  In 1982, he was named all-conference shortstop for Reavis, and then played stints with Southeast Missouri State and Moraine Valley Community College before earning a baseball scholarship with the University of Illinois.  After a stellar career with the Illini, Canan was drafted in the seventh round by the Chicago Cubs and played seven seasons in the Cubs' minor league system.  Besides coaching the Rams, Canan also is a hitting instructor at Diamond Edge Academy in Willowbrook and Line Drive Academy in Bedford Park.
