Rams beat Spartans in regional opener

Burbank, IL (October 17, 2012) - Behind goals from Kamil Szczesniak and Jose Estrada, the Rams (17-7) defeated Oak Lawn 3-0 in the first round of the IHSA State series.

With the victory, Reavis advances to the Regional finals where they will take on Marist High School at 11:00 on Saturday morning. The Rams tallied their first goal four minutes into the contest when Szczesniak took Jose Estrada&;s crossing pass and chipped it by Spartan goalkeeper Dan Bednarz. Five minutes later Jose Estrada scored on a penalty kick to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. Szczesniak finished off the scoring with a goal coming at 24:00 in the second half.

Reavis goalkeeper Rafal Slomba solidified the defense, stopping six Oak Lawn shots on goal in the first half alone. "Rafal had a great game on goal," said Coach Erickson. "With the weather conditions the way they were, it was extremely difficult to gain footing for the players, but he was able to make some excellent stops." This is Slomba&;s third shut-out on the season.

In the afternoon game, Marist defeated Crete Monee 3-2 in over-time.
