Rams Roll Over T.F. South

Burbank, IL (3/23/11)- The Varsity (3-2; 2-0) overcame the loss of a starter and the harsh weather to steamroll their way to a conference win over the Rebels of T.F. South, 11-0. Sarah Saunders, the starting 3rd baseman and usual cleanup hitter, fell ill and was sidelined for Wednesday&;s game. The Rams also handled the brisk wind and cold temperature while banging out 12 hits versus a key conference opponent. "We talked about putting the cold out of their minds before the game. I also asked the girls who would be willing to step up in Sarah&;s (Saunders) absence...I got my answer, they all did," an elated Coach Meskill stated after the game.

A single and stolen base by Amanda Raschke in the first inning set the stage for plating 2 runs in the opening frame. In the second, Caitlyn Balandis dealt the big blow with a bases loaded triple to put the Rams up 6-0. Kayla Mangiapane drove in one in the first inning and two in the fourth to lead the Rams. Reavis added the two in the fourth and three more in the sixth to end the scoring, and the game. Balandis (3-1) also picked up the win in the circle surrendering just 2 hits and striking out 8.
