The varsity wrestling team competed in a tough Regional Tournament this past Saturday, hosted by Morton H.S. In the end, three Reavis wrestlers earned the right to go on to sectionals next week by placing in the top three at their respected weight class. Kevin McDonald (106) & Jimmy McAuliffe (132) were both Regional champions! McDonald battled through a tough semi-final match after falling behind late in the 3rd. In the finals, Kevin was dominate and in control virtually the entire match. McAuliffe had to overcome a four point deficit to start the third period. However, with two explosive takedowns and near fall points Jimmy emerged victorious 9-8. Two impressive wins from the Regional champs! After losing in the semi-finals, Rene Sanchez (120) had to win his final two matches to keep his season alive. Rene showed great heart and resiliency as he as done all year, etching out two tough decisions to place 3rd. Furthermore, Rene avenged an earlier season loss in his 3rd place match. Congratulations to our Sectional qualifiers and good luck next week at Downers Grove North. Top for wrestlers at each weight class will advance to the IHSA State Tournament.
