Burbank, IL (May 19, 2011) - The Reavis Athletic Department is pleased to announce that boys' basketball coach Jeff Smith and girls' soccer coach Phil Basile were named Coaches of the Year for 2010-2011. They were honored at the 60th Annual Spring Sports Awards last night.
Coach Basile put in many hours during the summer, fall, and winter in conditioning and training his team. In the three short years he has been at the helm of the girls’ soccer program, Coach Basile has built his team into one of the best on the south side. This season was Phil’s best as the girls’ won the conference for the first time in program history and with a 15-3 record, they easily beat the best previous girls varsity record of 10-10-1.
Jeff Smith, whose son and daughter presented him his award, did an amazing job this year, leading the team to its first conference title since 2004. He worked tirelessly, enabling his boys to reach their full potential as individuals and as a team. One of Jeff’s nominators had the following to say, “In one of the most competitive conferences in the state, Coach Smith always has his players prepared and performing to the best of their abilities. Jeff was also named South Suburban Conference Coach of the Year.
