Sophomore girls win a thriller against Oak Forest

Burbank, IL (January 11, 2011) - The girls&; sophomore basketball team won a thriller over the Oak Forest Bengals tonight 27-25.  The Rams held a two point lead for the second half of the fourth quarter, but the Bengals tied the score on two made free throws with 40 seconds remaining. 

The Bengals then had a chance to win the game when they had the ball with 20 seconds left.  However, Donna Mierwa&;s tenacious defense caused an Oak Forest turnover, and freshman center Stephanie Verduzco scored a basket with three seconds left for the win.   

The win moves the Rams&; record to 11-6 over-all and 4-2 in SSC play.

Coach Gamino said, "All the sophomore girls are working hard in both practice and games.  They have each other believing they can win the conference."  

Chanel Koepke, who hit a big three-pointer in the fourth quarter, led all Rams scorers with eight points.  Verduzco and Mierwa chipped in six points each, and Melissa Johnson (four points) and Gabi Wallace (three points) rounded out the scoring for Reavis.
