Reavis Wins OT Thriller Against Argo

Summit, IL (January 20, 2012)  –

The Reavis Rams left for Argo on Friday afternoon, but did not expect the long bus ride.  Due to weather conditions and traffic, the 5.7 miles to Argo took 2.5 hours.  The Rams did not let that bother them, however.

Varsity (6-13; 2-7) battled the Argonauts back and forth all game.  The game was sent into overtime and Argo was the first to get two quick buckets, but the Rams did not give up and they had the last points.  Donna Mierwa and Chanel Koepke had their only points in OT, but they were what the Rams needed, winning 44-43.  Coming up huge for the Rams was sophomore Stephanie Verduzco, who was held scoreless in the 1st quarter, but she unleashed her offensive fury and ended with a game-high 22 points, while grabbing 16 rebounds.  Also contributing for the Rams were Nat Skolarus (12 pts., 4 assists), Yasmine Ballout (3 pts., 4 rebs, 2 assists), Chanel Koepke (3 pts., 2 rebs), Hannah Howard (2 pts., 3 rebs, 2 steals), and Donna Mierwa (2 pts., 9 rebs, 2 steals).

Sophs (6-13; 2-7) lost to the Argonauts.  Ally Balandis and Paulina Gal scored 6 points each in the loss.

Frosh A (13-2; 8-1) beat Argo, 30-27.  The Rams overcame poor play for the first 27 minutes of the game to sneak out a win in Summit.  Katelyn LoRusso scored 14 points and sank both ends of a one and one with 7.1 seconds left to seal the win.  Ewelina Kmin scored 9 points and Ashley Galason scored 7 points in the victory as well.
