Varsity, JV Cheer Finish 2nd in Conference

Summit, IL (January 23, 2011) - The Reavis cheerleading program made a strong showing at this weekend's South Suburban Conference Competition held at Argo High School.  Both teams finished in 2nd place in the SSC red division, following Shepard, who placed 1st at both levels.

Varsity faced strong competition from Argo and Eisenhower, who placed 3rd and 4th, respectively.  Reavis hit a clean routine, earning them a season-high score of 80.1.  The team earned high scores for Voice & Projection, and for the difficulty and high-level of execution in the Pyramid and Formations/Transitions.  But coaches throughout the SSC complimented the team on a highly energetic performance, which was another contributing factor in securing that 2nd place spot.  It was especially rewarding for the team, though, who had set a goal for conference to show more confidence on the floor.

Additionally, two varsity cheerleaders, juniors Ashlie Wiechec and Miranda Galason, were recognized as All-Conference award winners for their contributions to tumbling, stunting, and overall performance.  This is the first All-Conference win for both Wiechec and Galason.

The JV team also hit a clean routine, beating 3rd place Oak Lawn and 4th place Argo.  They finished with a 73.7, with high scores for Voice & Projection, and for the difficulty and execution of Motions.  The 2nd place finish was very exciting for the team, who due to injury and other circumstances, had to replace three teammates in the ten days before conference.  Despite this major challenge, the team pulled together, and their hard work paid off in the end.

While the competitive season has come to an end for the freshman and JV teams, varsity turns their attention and focus to this weekend's Sectional at Joliet Central High School.  The Rams are scheduled to perform at 9:21am.  They will compete for a coveted position in the Top 5, who qualify for the state competition.  Having surpassed a score of 80 at conference, varsity is within range to qualify.  Good luck to the varsity team - make them call our name!
