Former Reavis coach celebrated at Northwestern

Evanston, IL (March 10, 2014) - Former Reavis football coach Ed Tunnicliff recently visited Northwestern University and spent time with Wildcats head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Tunnicliff, an alum of Northwestern, scored one of the most famous touchdowns in school history - a game-winner in the 1949 Rose Bowl.

Tunnicliff's reason for taking the trip to Evanston was to donate his jersey that he wore in that Rose Bowl victory over California 20-14.  Known as "The Blonde Bullet," Tunnicliff's 45 yard touchdown run capped off the ninth greatest comeback in Rose Bowl history, according to The Los Angeles Daily News.

After graduating from Northwestern, Tunnicliff became the first football coach at Reavis High School.  He held that position from 1950-1954, with his best season coming in 1953 when he led the Rams to an 8-1-1 record.
