57th Annual Fitzgerald Sophomore Wrestling Tournament

Burbank, IL (January 7, 2011) - Six Rams placed in the 57th Annual Fitzgerald Sophomore Wrestling Tournament hosted by Reavis .  Matt Gonzales was crowned champion at 119 lbs., going 3-0 on the day pinning his first two opponents and winning a decision over Argo&;s Darrell Vanderbilt in the championship 8-4.

Other Reavis medal winners were Anthony Barbush (2nd place at 145 lbs.), Austin Binegar (3rd place at 275 lbs.), Jose Ponce (3rd place at 160 lbs.), Patrick Inglesby (3rd place at 103 lbs.), and Jacob Kosiek (Consolation Champ at 189 lbs.).

As a team, the Rams placed seventh with a team score of 107 points.  Joliet Central won the tournament with 174 points and Argo finished second by garnering 165 points. 

The Fitzgerald Tournament, named for former legendary Reavis wrestling coach John Fitzgerald, is the longest running sophomore tournament in the state of Illinois.  During his tenure at the helm of the Rams wrestling program, Fitzgerald won three state championships in 1960&;s.
