Girls open at Morton

Girls Track & Field
Track & Field had their first meet of the year this past Saturday at Morton H.S.  The throwing rams started the season on a great note, having 4 girls place out of 68 throwers between the Varsity & JV levels.  The varsity throwers were led by freshman Stephanie Verduzco (2nd place - 32&;4") and senior Yari Lopez (4th place - 31&;6"), while the JV were led by sophomore Danielle Doyle (2nd place - 26&;63/4") and freshman Mackenzie Mellenthin (4th place - 26&;5").  All four girls threw for personal records at the meet.  In the running events, Freshman Michele Lewellen finished 1st in the 800m with a time of 2:55, while freshman Sabina Bukowska finished 3rd in the 800m.  The 4x80m relay of Jessica Alexander, Sam Christianson, MaggieTysler, and Kelley Grzych won their relay!  Paulina Gal and Sam Christianson both placed in the 300m, while Kelley Grzych and Maggie Tysler placed in the 55m hurdles.  Jessica Alexander also placed in the 200m.  In the jumping events, sophomore Kelley Gryzch, freshman Sabrina Laskowski, and sophomore Sam Christianson all jumped 4-4 in the high jump (outstanding), while sophomore Maggie Tysler, sophomore Ashlie Wiechec, and freshman Paulina Gal all placed in the long jump.  Not a bad showing for ONLY 2 weeks of practice and with no true indoor season.
