Throwers score big at Andrew

Orland Park, IL (April 9, 2011)  The Varsity throwers did an outstanding job Saturday at Andrew Invite.  Senior captain Yari Lopez tossed a 84&;5" in the discus, earning her 4th place overall, while freshman Stephanie Verduzco placed 6th overall with a personal best in the Varsity shot put.  Coach Kreil has really set the bar high season, and having incredible success with the throwers this season.  Coach Kreil comments "The girls are starting to buy into what we have been stressing at practice.  Our success this season at meets/invites shows that we are getting better as a team, and it is a direct result of the time and effort put in at practice each week.  We have a younger throws program.  Regardless, we will continue to grow and continue to be competitve now, and in the future."  The Varsity 4x800m relay team of Karolina Komperda, Erica Seno, Hannah Howard, and Sam Wolfe has done an outstanding job so far placing in this competitive relay.  They are shooting for this season at the conference meet, and Coach Schoenfeld thinks it is a reasonable goal.  At the frosh soph level, Kelley Grzych came back from injury and finshed 2nd in the 100m hurdles and 1st in the high jump, while Michele Lewellen continues her dominance in the 800m by placing 3rd overall.  Danielle Doyle finished 2nd in the shot put, while Mackenzie Mellenthin placed 6th in the discus.
