Weathered through Lemont Invite

Lemont, IL (April 15, 2011)  Freshman Stephanie Verduzco and Senior Yari Lopez lead the team in overall points at the Lemont Invite.  They batled the tough competition and the tough weather elements Friday night.  In the shot put, Stephanie Verduzco finished first in the shot put and Yari Lopez finished 2nd in the shot put.  Then they came back to compete in the discus.  Yari finished 2nd place and Stephanie finished 6th.  It was an awesome display.  Coach Laurie Schoenfeld comments on the two, "Coach Kreil has done a great job with the throwers this season.  Stephanie is just getting better and better.  She is a fast learner, and is so focused, and to win the Lemont Invite is just another step forward in her season.  Yari is making the most out of her senior year.  Throwing a 94-4 last week, now placing 2nd in both discus and shot put at Lemont-what an accomplishment!"  "So far the main throwers (Fastwolf, Mellenthin, Doyle, Carrillo, Brown) are just tearing it up out there," continues Coach Schoenfeld.  The Rams battled through the tough elements of rain and thunder, while dealing with two long lightening delays and did what they could under the conditions.  Kelley Gryzch and Aslie Wiechec worked their magic in the jumps and hurdles, while Hannah Howard, Erica Seno, Sam Krawczyk, and Karolina Komperda ran a personal best relay time in the 3200m relay.
