Reavis alum Jessica Watychowicz running well at UW-Parkside

Kenosha, WI  (May 10, 2012).  Jessica Watychowicz is a 2009 graduate from Reavis High School, who received a running scholarship from University of Wisconsin-Parkside, has done a great job so far for the NCAA Division II university.  Jessica is in her junior year, and her track resume this year has been pretty impressive, including being a captain.  Early on in the season, she ran the 1500m at the Wheaton Twilight Invitational in a time of 4:30.67.  This time broke the meet record for the 1500m, which then ranked Jessica 7th in the nation for NCAA Div II runners.  UW - Parkside is in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, which nominated Jessica for her first ever GLVC track athlete of the week throughout the whole conference.  This time in the 1500m led her to qualify for the very prestigious meet in California called the Mt. Sac Invite, in which she chose to run the 5K.  Jessica ran an impressive 16:44.31 in the 5K, which is only four seconds off the 5K record at UW - Parkside.  This time also got Jessica to be ranked 12th in the nation for NCAA Div II runners, and her 2nd consecutive GLVC track athlete of the week.  This past weekend, Jessica ran at the GLVC Conference meet at St. Joseph&;s College in Rensselaer, Indiana.  I had the pleasure to witness her run the 1500m (where she finished 3rd) and the 5K (where she finished FIRST).  As of now, she is currently ranked 20th in the nation for NCAA Div II runners in the 1500m and 16th in the nation for NCAA Div II runners in the 5K.  Jessica could be one of very few athletes from Reavis to compete at a National meet.  Jessica also had a fantastic cross country season earlier in her junior year.  She was in the top three from her team for every meet that she competed in.  Her best finishes were at the Midwest Open (10th), Rosa Invite (4th overall), and the GLVC Conference meet (7th).  Jessica&;s 7th place finish at the GLVC Conference meet earned her All-Conference status, and helped her team finish 3rd overall.
