Girls Track open up at Morton

Cicero, IL  (March 9, 2013).  The girls opened up their season at the indoor Morton Invite Saturday.  Paulina Gal did a good job at the Varsity level by placing 3rd in the shot put.  The 4x800m relay team of Michele Lewellen, Jocelyn Acosta, Susu Almousa, and Sabina Bukowska gave it their all with a decent beginning to this relay.  Kelley Grzych, with no practice in the hurdles, qualified for the 55m hurdle finals.  At the Junior Varsity level, Sylvia Kozielski and Alex Malmborg stole the show when they almost ran through the brick wall as they both qualified in the 55m dash finals being they are only freshmen.  Kozielski ended up with a FIRST PLACE finish in the finals, where as Malmburg finished 6th.  Kozielski also finished 2nd in the long jump, which was her first time ever jumping in the pits.  Mackenzie Mellenthin did a great job in the shot put by placing 3rd.  Stephanie Majewski finished 4th in the 3200m run.  Susu Almousa finished 4th in the 1600m.  The JV 4x80m relay team of Taylor Behling, Jennifer Vargas, Ashley Simmons, and Clarissa Najera looked good for their first showing doing exchanges.  Overall, a very positive beginning to a hopefully memorable season.
