Reavis Splits Season Opener

The varsity wrestling team began their season with a Tri-meet with Stagg and Willowbrook High School. The Rams capped off a great come back against Stagg to win the dual 35-32. However, the Rams let one get away to Willowbrook falling to the Warriors 36-25. The Rams were lead by Senior Caption Sam Almousa who recorded a pin and a tech-fall. Other two match winners included sophomore Kevin McDonald, Senior Moe Sbittan, Senior Jesus Vasquez, and Junior Drew Moscato. Senior Tino Abarca was victorious in his only match of the night recording a big fall against Stagg.

Tony Pape

Coach Pape is entering his 7th school year at Reavis H.S..  He has proven to be a great asset to our wrestling program.  In addition to coaching wrestling, Tony is also a varsity football coach.  His dedication to the student-athletes of RHS is truly amazing.  Coach Pape was an all-state football player and wrestler at Hinsdale South H.S.  After high school Coach Pape attended the University of Michigan, where he was an All-American football player; from there he went on to play four years in the NFL.

State Series begins with Hinsdale Central Regional

The state series is officially underway with the 2013 Regional weekend in the books. The Rams competed in the tough Hinsdale Central Regional on Saturday. Once, again the Rams were not at full strength but still qualified two wrestlers and one alternate to the Sectional Tournament. Tino Abarca placed 3rd at 106 lbs. by defeating the same wrestler who beat him in his first match of the day.

JV Conference held at Shepard H.S.

The JV wrestling team traveled to Shepard H.S. to compete in their final competition of the season, the South Suburban JV Conference Tournament. Due to injuries and illness the Ram were without two starters but, still managed to place 3rd as a team. The Rams had six individual champions, four of which are freshmen! The Rams swept the first four weight classes. Freshmen Kevin McDonald continued his dominance taking the 100 lbs. weight class, sophomore Cody Dybalski was the champ at 106 lbs., freshmen Rene Sanchez bumped up to 113 lbs.

Conference Tournament held at T.F.S.

The Varsity Rams traveled to T.F.S. on Saturday to compete in the 14 team South Suburban Conference Tournament. Due to injuries and other complications the Rams didn&;t enter a full line up and placed 10th as a team. However, the Rams that were in the tournament came ready to wrestle and left it all on the mat. At the end of the day the Rams put four wrestlers on the podium. Jesus Vasquez and Sam Almousa both reached the finals and earned all conference honors.

Rams Conclude Regular Season

The Varsity Rams concluded their regular season Thursday night.  The Rams traveled to Eisenhower H.S. to take on Lemont, Tinley Park, and Eisenhower.  The Rams took the first two dual meets 57-12 over Lemont and 40-30 over Eisenhower but, dropped the last match to T.P. 47-23.  The Rams were led by Captain Sam Almousa (3-0), Tino Abarca, (3-0), Trevor Kasprowicz (3-0), Alex Banos (3-0) Cody Dybalski (2-0),  Matt Gonzales (2-1), and Jesus Vasquez (2-1). The Rams are off this weekend and will compete in the SSC Conference Tournament next Saturday the 26th, @ T.F.S. High School.

Illini Classic

The varsity Rams competed in the Illini Classic this past weekend. The 16 team tournament is renowned as one of the elite tournaments in the state. The Rams gave all they had, but at the end of the day the sole placer was Jesus Vasquez 5th at 113lbs. The Rams will conclude their regular season this Thursday with a conference quad at Eisenhower H.S. Good Luck!

Argo Quad

The Rams travled to Argo H.S. on Thursday to take on arch rivals Oak Lawn, Argo, & T.F. North. The quad got off to a rough start as the Rams were out wrestled by O.L. 41-27. However, the Rams showed great character and battled through the adversity to defeat T.F. North 57-24 and Argo 38-27. The Rams relied on thier heavy hitters as usuale but, got a huge boost from freshmen Kevin McDonald and Vinny Vertuccui.

Underclassmen Win the Fitzgerald Invite

The Fitzgerald Invite is the longest running Sophomore Tournament in the State, and was held this past Saturday at Reavis High School. The Rams captured the tournament championship for the first time... in a long time! The Rams earned team points at nearly every weight class and it was a complete team effort. Individual champions were freshmen Kevin McDonald and sophomore Dan Herlihy. In addition, Kevin McDonald was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler, recording three pins on the day. The Rams had a heard of runner ups who earned valuable team points all day.

Rams place 5th at Glenbard West Tournament

This past Saturday the Rams traveled to Glenbard West H.S. to compete in the Chris Chappell Invite. The Rams placed 5th as a team and were led by Tino Arbaca 3rd, Jesus Vasquez 2nd, Kyle Galason 3rd, and Sam Almousa 1st place. The Rams are entering into their busiest and toughest week of the season. Thursday the Rams travel to Argo for a conference quad against Argo, Oak Lawn, and T.F. North. After that, the Rams will begin the two day 16 team, Illiini Classic @ Lincoln Way East H.S. Good luck gentlemen!
